Normennenes
Singing Society was organized on October 30, 1870. The
present chorus, under the direction of Charles Kessell,
rehearses every Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. at the Estonian
House in Lincolnshire, Illinois, except for the months of July and
August. Singers are still needed to carry on the fine
tradition of the past.
Annual singing engagements include the following:
- Festival of Song (Mini-Sangerfest) (March)
- Marching and singing at Norwegian Constitution Day -
Park Ridge, IL (May)
- Biennial Sangerfest as part of the Norwegian Singers
Association of America (NSAA) - to be held in Illinois in
2012 (June)
Normennenes celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1970. It
was perhaps the highlight of our long history. The
celebration covered 2 days. On Friday evening, October 30
that year a concert was presented to a capacity crowd at
Maine East High School. Our good friends, the Bjornsen Male
Chorus, greeted us with "Sangerhilsen" sung from the back of
the auditorium. The banquet on the following evening was a
grand affair, indeed, only equaled by the banquet held
in honor of H. M. King Olav in 1968.
We look forward to your joining us. For more
